little help please with heater fitting

HI New to the forum and prob will pest the hell out of you for tec info.
i am in the middle of a restoration project and i am about to fit the heater back in (the standard type .)
i have noticed it has 3 pipes for water but as of yet not piped it up. so dont know witch is in / out flow etc
does any one have any diagrams / pics or point me to a web site with images please ?
