JCW Challenge series cars

Hi, I saw a 2005 JCW Challenge Series Mini, the other day, placards on the car said "John Cooper Works, Challenge series, 7 of 100". It had all the performance parts. Any information on these cars? Is this something real or made up?

This car is in San Francisco, owner says it has 285hp, bigger head and supercharger, close ratio gear box, all the suspension mods, Brembo brakes front and rear, racing mag wheels, etc, etc.. the current owner is not the original owner and does not know much about where or who built it. Very nice car. So is it a prototype to the BMW 2007 JCW Challenge cars? Does anyone know about this 2005 Challenge Series Car or cars?
