I find it funny that the Mini dealer who i bought my car off only 2 months ago does not answer my simple questions about whether my warranty covers the exhaust and dual mass flywheel!(dont have probs just want to know) I also have spoken to one of their mechanics who said he could not tell me what gear box oil Mini approved as if something went wrong they would be liable???

PLEASE!! fOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! I have not heard so much crap in my life!

Bogo and Dan 41......i know you both work for Mini so any view you might have would be appreciated. I would also like to thank you Dan41 for advising me on the MTF94 gearbox oil to try and cure the noise i get sometimes when pulling away in 1st gear! Am booked for my oil change next Friday so will tell u if your advice was spot on!

the gear oil can take 150mls or so to bed in and i presume my good frien dan has informed you that your are best to change your oil when the gear box is hot to remove as much oil as possible. then when you have replaced it find a large open space and drive 10 full lock circles right, and 10 full lock circles left this helps work tho oil into the diff which is the part of the gearbox which has been making the noise (bearing in mind we have not heard the noise so this advice is best guess). it has been known for this not to rectify the fault and a gearbox has been the only other option. Hope this helps.

AUC Warranty may cover the exhaust depnding on the fault.

I really doubt the flywheel would be covered as this a wear and tear item which is part of the clutch assembly.

Also noises are not covered under extended warranty as you are probably aware with the noise your gearbox is making.

The noise is only when i lift the clutch to pull away so i doubt its the gear box as that operates fine and i only get the noise once or twice every few days! Its only a slight eehhh noise like when you have a dry rubber bush on your suspension wish bone.

Have booked car into mates garage who specialise in Bmw and Mercedes next week to change oil.....If it does not end up being that then nothing lost really and at least the oil is new.

Cheers

yeah the noise you are describing is produced by the diff in the gearbox. BMW say its excess friction noise but it is only a noise and will not do any harm. also this noise can sometimes be made by and engine mount. Normaly the O/S Top engine mount which leaks a black fluid which is its internal fluid which may cause the engine to move the bush to far and cause a squeak. Also the engine mount between subrame and sump has been known to make funny noises. These mounts are both pretty easy to change if you have got a jack handy.

Also the O/S top engine mount may be covered on the auc warranty of leaking but check with your dealer first.

Hope this helps
