Electronic Power Steering Motor

Hey can anybody help me - my power steering motor went yesterday and when my garage ordered the new one they were told that it was a common fault in minis has anyone else had same problem?

yeah im afraid they are. I work at a dealer and we can usually see about 3 a week for this problem and there not cheap either as you probably know? once they have been replaced they usually last we dont get many back think they are modified ones that are being fitted by dealers now.

mine packed up too took it to cooper's in chelmsford who changed it under warrenty but you have to make them aware this is a safety recall in the states!

Only effects first generation mini's. This fault has been on BBC watchdog. You should press BMW to cover this if you have low mileage or at least 50% constrib if higher mileage. Other common faults include overheating due to thermostat issues and a faulty housing causing fluid leaks

Hi I am a new owner of a 54 mini one, I recently had a prob ln 2 occasions power steering went off as I was reversing then just came back on after restarting the engine is this a common probIme still under warranty is it worthwhile contacting the dealer?
