hey guys, im a bmw tech and i have an 03' cooper s in with a no start condition. we're not a mini dealer and cannot do warranty work so i know very little about these. the car is out of warranty however so it was brought to us. the problem was that fuse #6 had blown. this fuse is for the clutch/brake light switch. since the fuse blew the ews was not getting a signal from the clutch switch letting it know the clutch is depressed so it can crank. i replaced the fuse and the customer took the car. a week or so later it came back with the same issue. the clutch switch and the brake light switch were swapped in from different cars so it shouldnt be related to either. though there dosent seem to be anything else on the fuse 6 circuit. i cant for the life of me get the fuse to blow again or see anything that should be causing it to short. has anyone encountered anything similar to this before? thanks.

hi, im a mini tech. Have not heard that the EWS needs a signal from the clutch. if im right in thinking its an R53 (SuperCharged) Cooper S? does the thing crank but not start or does it not even crank.

If its cranking but not starting the Fuel pump relays are prone for burning out. the relay is in the passenger footwell and is a light green colour. there are normally 2 relays that look the same and these can be swopped over and usually the car will start straight away.
