ive just fitted a K&N filter, removed the old filter housing , sounds lovely now, but dont know if anything else has changed, cant say it feels any different, but worth it for the sound alone;)

You want to be real careful about oiling the K&N. The oil can gum up the MAP sensors in the new MINI's. Not such a problem with the first gen ones tho.....

I've been looking for intakes 2009 Cooper S. M7 tuning has some pretty neat intakes, but haven't heard anything about them yet. Anybody have anything on that?

Fitted the M7 intake on my R53 earlier this month and I surprisingly noticed an increase in Fuel economy...It sounds friggin amazing, and there IS a difference in power (for the better)
Installing was a bit of a pain, but in my opinion worth the gain!

Not difficult at all. Just take your time and it should be no problem as long as you are comfortable working on your car.
