My power steering always makes a whining noise when u turn the steering! Have had the car 6 months now and have to admit it has always made this noise.... Is it just me or is it normal?

Also, am definately having my clutch done by Palmer Bros in South east London after my conversation with Modern Mini Magazine.

A few weeks ago i took it to a Nationwide clutch place and they said that the noise i was experiencing was just a thrust bearing being dry and the clutch seemed ok...... Have let 4 people drive my car and they have said the same thing that my clutch is really hard and i must be knackered after a 30min drive.

Spoke with Kevin Palmer of Palmer brothers who have built race minis and also a shortened mini for a show and he said it is definately the clutch coming to the end of its life as it should not be that hard and that most clutch places are not that good at tdoing the clutch as they never seem to put the special oil into the gearbox and use engine oil and also do not replace the air con canister which should also be done.

Hi diddy

I ve been in several mini's and every single mini has the power steering whining if it gets louder and the steering starts to get heavier the pump is about to go so keep ur ears out. i mean louder by if driving over 70 mph you can still hear it.

It's not to bad, just a bit time consuming. You want to make sure you have the right fluid tho. You can't just use standard PS fluid. You have to use the MINI specific stuff.

Not to bad anyone with a haynes manual and is mechanically minded will make light work of it if you have acces to a hydraulic ramp and a proper garage 1-2 hr job.

jen just be careful my mates pump stopped working and now its working after hitting a speed bump to hard????? your guess is as good as mine whats going on there.
