View Full Version : Induction Filter made my S worse WHY???
Hi everyone I recently purchased a pipercross induction kit with a heat shield included. After fitting it I excitedly jumped into the drivers seat, reversed the car off the drive, flicked off the ASC, put my foot down and was BITTERLY DISSAPOINTED. Less power, less torque ( but the supercharger sounded sweeet ) , and me with a very very dissapointed look on my face. Why Why WHY? . Then after driving it for a few miles it started to improve and get faster, but still not as quick as it was with the stock filter fitted. Has anybody had this same problem? Does it take a while for the ecu to adjust? Should i just go back to the origional filter ? Somebody Plllllllleeeeasssssse Help Me.

What year S do you have?
There is really no way for this intake to have any kind of bad effect on your power unless something was improperly installed. You didn't block the intake with anything did you?
nope didnt block anything when it was installed, and it was installed correctly i believe. the cooper is on an 03 plate so 2003. have taken it for another spin tonight and noticed a significant improvement, very very strange!! it seems to have lost a little torque in the lower rev levals but gained alot of torque in the higher rev levals, does this sound right ?. oh and next questions is what do i upgrade next?????

Getting a new, smaller, supercharger pulley is the best bang for the buck. Easily a 15hp gain.
The intake problem is one I have never heard of. When I installed mine it was better right off the bat. Hope it works out.
how much does a supercharger pulley cost? im really interested in getting this done also thanks for your help.

You can get the recommended 15% reduction pulley for around $100.
In fact Alta is having a big sale right now..........http://www.altaperformance.com/

sup big d...
just wanted to help you out a lil bit... when u did put in the intake in your car, how many miles are on the car before you installed it, to let you know, the car does have a adaptation program built into the ecu, which mean's that the computer learn's how the driver drives the car, and also how the car is running... what happened is, that after you install the intake, the car got confused, and is tring to relearn itself with the new intake... i don't know where you are located out of, but we do have a tool at our shop, that we rewrite the factory adaptations into the ecu, so the memory of the ecu is back, like you have first picked it up from the factory, that should help you feel the original power, plus the intake power...
also like scottinbend mentioned, yes... a pulley will help you out big time, and it's the most budget friendly mod also... the alta pulley in my 2 cent, is a nice unit... but i don't like to recommend it to my friends, they are many pulley company's out there... if u need advice just pm me, and i'll help you out anytime...
hope this info help's...
