They won't mess with the exhaust, but they will req the removal of the dust protection box on the bottom of the linkage tray. This will allow debris to collect on the greased parts of the linkage. Not a good idea in my opinion.

Another issue with the short throw shifters is the increased effort to change gears. By shortening the "throw" you will increase the effort req'd to move the shifter. So it is a choice on what you want....easier shifting or a shorter throw.

will it make for quicker shifting tho? is the question i like the idea of quicker shifting and being faster on the happy pedal:D you do make a good point on the dust cover if that has to be removed then no doubt it will clog with crap causing other problem. so maybe not then. thanks for your help on this plan.

As to the quickness.......not for me, but it may seem faster to some. I like a bit more ease in the effort rather than a shorter throw (which could cause problems with getting the right gear cause the gates would be much closer).

I also don't like the shifter being that much closer to the floor, just takes longer to get my hand from the wheel to the shifter.

fair enough mate u make a good point. its all good. the loosing argument for me wat the idea of crap getting into all the greasy bits on the bottom of the gear stick linkages.
