Hello people,
I'm trying to rebuild mini 1000 '88. (I have no Engine and gear)
I live in Georgia, so it is very hard for me to find mini 1000 engine, so i'm trying to put a different make's engine and gear under the hood.
Can you give me an advice and tell me which make's engine and gearbox will fit in mini 1000 without causing much trouble?
thanks in advance.

the original engine is an A series fitted to loads of british layland cars morris and austins the engine you want to for a straight forward replacement is the austin metro 1275 turbo however theres lots of places in england that will hook you up with some serious mini performance parts including a supercharger kit 16 valve motor bike cylinderhead! most of the cars fitted with the a series are rear wheel drive were as the mini is fwd so will need thecorrect gearboy and stuff hope this helps in some way. however you can go the rear engine way and get eather the honder vtec or suzuki hybooser engine both will kick ass! dont no much on these replacement but there are alot about so you will be able to get some info from the right ppl.

there are a number of classic MINI's running Honda 1.6 VTEC motors, another popular conversion is the 2.0 DOHC 16v from the Opel Astra/Vectra. Take a look at Miniworld magazine, http://www.miniworld.co.uk/ you'll find all sorts of interesting stuff in it.
