I'm a pretty good back yard mechanic. Is replacing the suspension / swingarm bushings really that difficult? I understand a special tool may be required to press them in / out. Is that tool anything like the tools we use to press ball joints into control arms?
Any insight from a pro or experianced amateur would be appreciated

Second questiosn:
Should I stay with stock bushings or switch to after-market polyurethane?
BTW: My car is a 2003 "s" hard top (no sunroof) - all stock except tires (no run-flats)

Are you talking about the lower front control arm bushings?
If so, then yes you do need a press to replace them. There are some vendors who offer the bushing already installed in a new mount.

Thanks Scot
I assume there is more than one bushing involved. There seems to be a common problem I have heard about that involve suspension bushings that will crack or leak (if they are fluid filled) that will cause the car to wander a bit. I'm not sure if they are talking about control arm, swing arm, anti-sway, etc. I figured I would get under there and check it out. I bought the car used and have had no cause to do anything so far but change the oil so I am still relatively unfamiliar with it (mechanically). I suspect I will be more "fluent" after a little time in the garage. I'm just afraid that once I start, I'll have to start modding the car and that can be a never ending project.
