Winters in the NE havent been too bad in recent years but I'm thinking of getting a set of winter tires and wheels for the first time. Part of the reason is to save some life on my regular tires. What do you guys have and how much did it cost? Worth the money or save it for some other mods?

tirerack FTW

I made the mistake of riding in the winter with summer tires on one season and now I say never again. With a good set of blizzaks you will think you are driving a dedicated 4x4.

I'm not in a wintry state but minis should be decent to drive in the snow since it's FWD  Though downside is its got low clearance. What state you live in?

I see Mini's all over the place in Québec Province, Canada, in winter time(and do we ever get a LOT of snow here), and most owners say they are great in snow with good winter tires. Clearance dont seem to be an issue either, it's mostly the power steering fan that can be a problem on the R52-53.

Go with some cheap 15" wheels (02-06) or 16" for the new gen MINI and get some good tires and you will never have to worry about snow again......unless the roads haven't been plowed and you try to drive on more than about 6" of fresh snow.

Winter Tires are a must if you want to bomb around in the winter and have a little fun in the white stuff (instead of being terrified of the White Death"

I LOVE to drive in the snow...it is so much fun. I have never run into a situation that I couldn't get out of. Not yet anyways, and I laugh at the morons that try to keep up to me in their big A$$-U-V's. They end up in the guardrail or the ditch more often than not.

I never need them here in TX but I got friends up north who say that FWD cars handle great with just a set of steel wheels wrapped with some winter tires.

Good investment plus it'll save some life on your summer tires during those 2-3 months of the year you have the winters on.
