This is a dumb question, but I'm too embarrassed to ask the dealer - I just got a new 2010 MINI CooperS with an iPod/Bluetooth adaptor - is it ok to keep my iPod plugged in when I'm not in the car? When I turn the engine off, I can see the iPod is illuminated and connected, and I don't want to wear out the battery or any power. Also, it just sticks out of the console, and my other adapter was in the glovebox, so it's hard to hide the iPod sticking out. Help?

How many hours are we talking about here? If it's for just a few hrs I'm sure it's fine. The ipod sips power lightly. If on the other hand it's for a week or month then I'd just unplug it to be safe.

Yes, just overnight - or inbetween trips - not for weeks at a time. I just don't know how much battery power it uses.

Here's a question - when you shut off the car and leave the ipod connected, is the ipod displaying that it's charging? Or is it the ipod just "on" and illuminated?

If it's not actually displaying that it's charging, that just means the ipod doesn't shut off itself when plugged into the adapter, but isn't actually charging (drawing power form your cooper)

I don't think your ipod is actually charging while your car is off. If you have your iPod in the center console and take a look at it whn you first get in the car, the iPod screen will be lit up. This is because it has been "awakened" by your unlocking and opening of the door.

Even if it didn't work this way, the iPod/Phone/whatever would take weeks to drain your battery, and your battery would likely be dead due to other things. An ipod battery is about 800mAh, you could charge your ipod fully on just about 1% of the car battery.

No worries.

I think that it's lit and "awakened" when I open the door and it isn't really charging - although I see the little charging icon whenever it is "on" - and the iPod hasn't been depleted of juice power. Thanks so much. Before this 2010 MINI, I had a 2005 MINI Cooper with an IPod cable in the glovebox that shut on and off with the car, so this stumped me. But I had to program the iPod in a very dorky way - in 5 "MINI" lists on the playlists. The new program is much better and I can play any playlist in the iPod.

Glad you figured it out  And agreed, the new program is heads and tails better than the old. It's too bad our cars can't just receive updates to new technology easily. Seems like as soon as you buy your car the technology gets replaced by something better :(

Could anyone confirm that with the latest new mini cooper whether you can just pluton an iPod and it works through the stereo or is an adapter/option required ?? Sorry for the dumb question
