I had my 2007 Mini Cooper S towed tothe local dealership as it would not start. It turned over but would not engage. I was told it was low on oil and as a result it would need a top end rebuild. It was running fine with no issues prior to it not starting after sitting in the garage for the weekend. The car has 57000 miles and went out of warranty earlier this month. The last time it was in for service it had an oil change (48000 miles) and timing chain replaced under warranty.
I bought this car used with 24000 miles and all service has been done by Mini. The oil level is checked monthly and it has needed only 1/2 quart of oil added since I have had it. Now I am told that turbo Minis use up to a quart of oil every 750 miles. I would think that would be a very important issue to address but it was never mentioned until this problem. Why would a car suddenly begin using massive amounts of oil and could this be related to the timing chain replacement?
Obvioulsy I am very disappointed and plan to contact the local Mini representative but the dealership is trying to make tht impossible.
